 Removing Bryllium from Water Resources
Beryllium in groundwater and surface water occurs in ionic forms as well as in the form of different complex substances.

We can consider forms as Be2+, Be(OH)-, Be2(OH)3+' BeF+, BeF2, Be(HSO4)+, etc., while the beryllium concentration in water is given by the solubility products of Be(OH)2 amorf., Be(OH)2, and Be3(PO4)2.

As the complex substances have positive charges, it can be assumed that sorption capacity of some materials (zeolites, manganese minerals, etc) in alkaline environment (pH above 8) could be utilized for the beryllium removal technology. Another approach could be seen in converting beryllium to aluminium complex substances use of polyaluminium chloride.

The results of laboratory work show the efficiency and technological parameters of the both treatment technologies - simple sorption on different materials, and also the process common in drinking water technology, i.e. coagulation followed by sorption on hydrated Al2O3.
