Salzburg AG: Financing of New Power Station Projects
Will be replaced: Hydropower station Strasser in Oberpinzgau

Salzburg AG will invest € 110 million in 2004. This is the highest investment budget of the past 5 years. New power plants and network developments (mainly municipal heating, electricity and telecommunication) were the most important decisions of the "Salzburg AG für Energie, Verkehr und Telekommunikation".

In the districts Pinzgau and Tennengau, the Salzburg AG is implementing three new power station projects starting from 2004. The year 2003 with the hot period, the water shortage and the blackouts abroad have shown how important a functioning local power supply is. More local facilities reduce the dependence on international power and supply networks.
  • In Trattenbach in Oberpinzgau, a new small hydropower station is being built to replace the existing small hydropower station Strasser. The new plant with an output of 5 MW and an annual electric power generation of 17 GWh will supply about 4,900 households with eco-electricity. The water law negotiations will be taken up soon, the power plant is to be completed by the end of 2005 at the latest. Investment: € 6.7 million, payback period: 17 years.
  • Small hydropower station m-real: At the premises of m-real in Hallein the small hydropower station owned by m-real up to now will be modernised. The operation licence for this small hydropower station from the 30ies of the past century is expiring. Subject to official authorisations, the Salzburg AG will take over and upgrade the plant. The work will start in 2004; a completion is planned for the end of 2005. The present annual electric power generation of 24 GWh will be more than doubled to 56 GWh. The start-up of the new small hydropower plant of the Salzburg AG is planned for the beginning of 2006, the investment sum amounts to € 25 million.
  • At the premises of the sawmill Schachl at Abtenau the Salzburg AG is building the biomass cogeneration plant for combined heat and eco-power generation. The investment sum amounts to about € 5.3 million with an estimated payback period of about 14 years. When completed, this plant will supply about 2,600 households with eco-electricity; the heat of 40 GWh generated per year will be used in the pelleting and wood drying facilities of the Schachl company. Start-up is planned for 2004.
