 Analysis of Water Losses
In 1990, VAK Prostejov (Water and Sewerage Administration in Prostejov) commissioned a study concerning the status of the water supply network and the flow capacities within the Prostejov region.

It was the purpose of the study to reduce water losses with the use of a continuously controlled valve.

In order to successfully complete this task, it was necessary to make an analysis of the existing system, renovate the pipeline network (increasing profiles and replacing damaged sections), define pressures and withdrawals within places with high exposure, define the methods of measurement and pressure regulation with the use of a continuously controlled valve, create a control system, build control and controlled structures and incorporate them in the existing water supply control system.

The reconstruction carried out in 1995 – 1998 helped reduce the losses by 10.5 %. In 1999, after the opening of a pressure control unit, the losses decreased by additional 9 %.

Dispraise water losses in a water supply network is achievement of controlled dispraise pressure. The pressure is controlled by means of a balance valve.

The equipment for the control pressure is set in two directorial and controlled objects. Because of their considerable distances the remote data transmission between the waterworks dispatching and objects are performed through radio.

No direct communication among individual objects is possible in this case. The remote control is transaction through a simple algorithm. An operator can change all parameters for the control.
