 Lower Austria
World Heritage Natural Site Danube-Morava-Thaya Floodplains?
The nature conservation organisation "Alliance for the Nature" wants to have the floodplain region inscribed in the World Heritage List of the Convention Concerning the Protection of World Culture and Natural Heritage.

According to parliament member Franz Hiller (ÖVP), the province of Lower Austria is going to support this endeavour. The aim of the World Heritage Convention adopted in 1972 is to protect natural and cultural properties of outstanding universal value for future generations.

The proposed Danube-Morava-Thaya Floodplains would be the first purely natural site in the sense of the Convention in Austria. Hence, Lower Austria would again become the forerunner in nature conservation. After all, this province had already a leading role in the realisation of the National Park idea.
