Visiting the mains was connected with a short visit of the South-Pest wastewater pumping station. It works, but it is an industrial monument as well, completed in 1893. The electricity-driven pumps work there from 1931. There is an extra diesel-pump for the case of power-supply failure, also build before WW2. This pump-station, inspite of its readiness to work, serves also as a museum site. There is a modern, up-to-date station nearby, which takes the responsibility mainly for the wastewater.
The main, leading the waste- and rainwater to the pump stations is 4,8 m high, and has sidewalks on both sides. While the minister inspected the main, others could see the group on the monitors of the special vehicle.
It is equipped with cameras, spot lamps, and the instruments can control and register the condition of the canal system. This method meets the requirements of UE standard 13508.
The minister was shown the new canal-cleaning instrument too. It can clean mains DM1400-3000mm with pressure 170-200bar.
Today about half of the wastewater of Budapest undergoes complete treatment. For 2015 the amount of the biological treatment will reach almost 100 percent.
