All business units of VA TECH HYDRO with its locations at Linz, Vienna and Weiz including the generator manufacture fulfilled all the requirements of an environmental management system and were awarded the ISO 14001 certificate. The ISO 14001 environmental management system helps to ensure compliance with the following environmental requirements:
- Establishing an efficient energy management with particular emphasis on renewable primary resources
- Reduction of greenhouse gases such as CO2
- Optimised water management and controlled waste water disposal
- Waste reduction and increased recycling
- Responsible utilisation of resources and use of environmentally friendly materials
- Ensuring compliance with environmental laws and regulations
Active environmental protection, careful use of resources as well as safe and environmentally compatible working conditions for the staff have played a major role at VA TECH HYDRO for many years. The ISO 14001 certification demonstrates that the employees are committed to embracing and establishing environmental excellence as part of corporate culture. Accordingly, responsible utilisation of primary resources and optimised use of materials in product manufacture, combined with environmentally friendly working conditions for employees open up new opportunities for sustainable development. First steps in relation with this process were already taken a few years ago. Now VA TECH HYDRO will have to continue this culture and to prepare it for the next generations.
