Manfred Eisenhut has been successfully active and committed to Austrian drinking water management for almost twenty years – for example as head of the water division of the ÖVGW. Georg Grüner has been head of the water management division of the ÖWAV for several years and has been able to gain valuable experience in this position also at an international level. The appointment of these two branch insiders to the Austrian IWA agency is a response to the increasing internationalisation of urban water management. The shared management and the composition of the board make sure that both the divisions water supply and wastewater treatment are internationally represented by the National Committee. The service organisations of the National Committee are the Austrian Association for Gas and Water (ÖVGW) and the Austrian Water and Waste Management Association (ÖWAV).
The Austrian National Committee of the IWA is structured as an association according to Austrian law; it represents the domestic water management interests at IWA’s central office in London. The Austrian IWA National Committee is a leading member of IWA and thus THE strong voice of the Alpine Republic in international urban management.
A global network, IWA comprises water management experts in research and practice and accounts for all aspects of the water cycle. It has emerged from a merger of IWSA (water supply) and IAWQ (water disposal). All members within IWA aim to promote a successful and sustainable water management around the globe.
In cooperation with other comparable international organisations, IWA is seen as a mainspring for the promotion of science and the permanent search for optimal practical applications. Its biggest asset is the scientific and geographical diversity of its members – researchers, public utilities, management consultants, regulators, industrial water users and suppliers for water management.
