It took them a while to look at – and finally pick the best ones of – in all 2,230 (!) submitted projects, most of them of outstanding quality. NEPTUN (traditionally organised in conjunction with World Water Day) was first launched in 1999 and awarded for the fifth time this year. The overwhelming response only goes to show that the prize has fully accomplished its prime objective: to strengthen public awareness of water and promote a careful and sustainable use of this vital resource. Emotional impressions, contemporary art, projects supporting sustainable water use or raising awareness: NEPTUN 2007 participants were allowed to let their creativity flow freely.
This year, two new categories – WasserWELT and WasserKOMMUNIKATION – were added to complement the well-accepted categories of previous years, WasserKREATIV and WasserSCHUTZ.
This year’s audience award with the theme WasserEMOTION was organised in partnership with the provincial governments (national & regional voting). The prizes awarded to NEPTUN 2007 winners in all amounted to € 41,000. € 3,000 were given to the winners of each category. The € 5,000 main prize went to the best and most innovative water-related project.
The NEPTUN Water Prize was initiated by BMLFUW and is also powered/sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Labour, ÖVGW and ÖWAV, Kommunalkredit Public Consulting, Verbund, Coca Cola Beverages Austria, the provincial governments, and the Vienna Waterworks.
