His birthday and the World Day for Water are just one day apart! Vienna-born Kling earned a diploma from the University of Natural Resources & Applied Life Sciences in Vienna (BOKU) and after joining the Vienna Waterworks soon became encharged with various ambitious projects. Without doubt his major achievement so far has been the development of the Int. Association of Water Supply Companies in the Danube River Basin (IAWD). Serving as managing director of IAWD since its foundation, Kling has had ample opportunity to build international contacts.
Walter Kling believes that Vienna was selected as venue of the 2008 IWA World Water Congress in recognition of the persistent efforts which Austria and its federal capital undertake to develop urban water management along sustainable lines.
When asked about the key focus of the 2008 IWA World Water Congress, he says: “This leading water event in 2008 will draw attention to the Danube Region as being one of only few international river basins where the fruitful collaboration among many different partners leads to a sustainable living environment and prosperous economies.”
In his capacity as Congress President, Kling is also the one to contact by people interested in the 2008 Congress, potential conference participants, partner organisations, but also potential sponsors.
