New Wastewater Treatment Plant in Budapest with ISPA Founding

The preparation works for the Central Wastewater Treatment Plant got green light after Dr. Gábor Demszky, Mayor of Budapest signed the treaty in September 2002. Due to the new, planned plant, more than 80% of Budapest’s wastewater will reach the Danube after biological cleansing.

A Hungarian-Swedish consortium will go on with the preparation and construction works. The estimated cost of the preparation is not expected to reach more than EUR 1,7 million. The Hungarian government will provide 25% , 75% of the sum will be covered by ISPA.

The complete investment will be EUR 320-350 million, 40% of it could be supported by ISPA, HUF 25,5 billion (EUR 100 million) will be provided by the government, the remaining amount has to be covered by the means of the Hungarian Capital – of its own founds and credits.

The new treatment plant is expected to be completed by 2008.
