 Economic Exploitation of Water Resources
Various forms of exploitation of water and its resources have been, since the very beginning of the existence of mankind, an inevitable prerequisite for survival. Water is the basic biological and civilisation factor, a key raw material for the economy, a medium allowing transport, production of energy, disposal of waste from human activities, recreational and sport activities of a man. But thanks to the multiple functions thereof, exploitation of waters is often in conflict with the requirements of the permanently sustainable development and environmental balance.  [more...]

 Garajky Water Reservoir
On the southern slopes of the High Tatras, by building and gradual interconnection of small water main systems, the so-called Tatra Water Management Network was built, and westwards, a group water main in Liptovsky Mikulas. These systems serve for supply of drinking water to consumption sites in the larger part of the district Poprad, and supplies some water to the consumption sites of the districts Kezmarok, Spisska Nova Ves, and Levoca. However, in these sites, many small and remote villages do not have any public water main, neither many other neighbouring districts Gelnica and Stara Lubovna. The group water main in Liptovsky Mikulas has some small problems with the built water management infrastructure, and many of its water resources are extremely vulnerable and thus risky from the aspect of the current and especially future reliability.   [more...]

Protected Zones of Water Resources in the Slovak Republic
Water supply resources are determined i.e. for supply of drinking water to the population. In view of strict requirements for their quantitative but mainly qualitative parameters, they are protected by several types of regional protection. The extent of such protected zones and protected regions in the Slovak Republic is subject to the following information.   [more...]

Water Reservoirs and Importance for Water Supply
In Slovakia, in certain circles of nature protectors, there has been a trend for more than ten years against construction of water reservoirs. Unfortunately, this has become certain fashionable trend and it is implied mostly without any deeper analysis. Because of lack of knowledge of the problems, orientation to local water resources is forced in supply of drinking water.  [more...]
