Vienna World Water Congress Prepares Ground for Montreal

Linking science and economy, promoting women’s advancement and supporting young water professionals: the Vienna 2008 Congress set a new course that will take us towards Montreal 2010
When in 2000 the two international water and wastewater organisations IAWQ and IWSA got together to form the International Water Association (IWA), many water experts expected the new organisation to fail. In the meantime, they have seen enough to change their mind. IWA is thriving and has developed into THE international brainpool for water affairs. In Austria, the foundation of IWA had the restructure of the former IAWQ/IWSA National Committee into an IWA National Committee as well as a change of management in its wake. The Austrian Committee has developed quite successfully and, since in 2003 IWA selected Vienna as the venue of the 2008 World Water Congress, has earned growing recognition by the water community.
