New Training Centre at Linz AG Wasser

The Scharlinz waterworks opened a new training centre for water professionals in October this year. Its first customer was ÖVGW with a seminar on pressure testing

On the same premises as the permanent exhibition "Wasserwelt Scharlinz" founded in 2008, LINZ AG WASSER has now opened a training centre for water professionals. The new training centre devised by LINZ AG WASSER’s chief executive Wolfgang Petritsch will mostly be available to in-house staff, but also external companies can book the location for seminars against a fee. The first external customer holding a seminar on pressure testing last October was the Austrian Association for Gas and Water (ÖVGW). The thirty seminar participants all successfully completed the seminar.

The new training centre was established in response to the growing application of sophisticated technologies in public water supply, such as permanent monitoring of water supply systems and multi-parameter sensing. Thanks to collaboration with reputed Austrian manufacturers, students will also benefit from the use of cutting-edge equipment, state-of-the-art pipe materials, slide valves, etc.

To this end, several “test lines” were installed at the Upper Austrian capital’s oldest waterworks, each 100 metres in length and made of commonly used materials. These test lines can be regularly upgraded with the latest components, so that public water service operations remain unaffected. “If we need to look at larger sections of the system, we may temporarily access the public water distribution network via the control room,” says Stefan Musil, in charge of leak detection and water loss training (also refer to ÖVGW’s new W 63 guidance). Musil heads the division related to water resource planning and management at LINZ AG WASSER.
