IWA Opens New Branch Office in Bucharest
With a new branch office which it launched together with ARA in November, the International Water Association (IWA) brings its services closer to the Danube and Black Sea regions

The new IWA hub will primarily serve to foster the exchange of know-how in SE Europe and to encourage participation in regional activities offered by the International Water Association. Particular focus will be on participation in IWA’s Specialist Groups, specialised conferences and training (including Water Operator Partnerships/WOP), as well as on IWA programmes for capacity building, the WHO Water Safety Plan and, last but not least, the IWA Young Water Professionals initiative.

IWA Executive Director Paul Reiter says: “Our main goal is to support the maturing water sector in the Danube and Black Sea regions. Through the untiring commitment of national associations, which form the backbone of our work, we have already managed to draw leading experts from the international water community to this region and establish international best practices also in these countries.

Our new office in Bucharest will serve as a hub for delivering these important functions.” IWA’s decision to increase its focus on South East Europe follows from a multi-year consultation process, which was eventually finalised during the IWA World Water Congress in Vienna in 2008.
