In context with the EU Water Framework Directive Austria too has to make sure that all natural watercourses will have achieved an excellent or good ecological status by the year 2015. Brooks and rivers which have been irreversibly modified by human influence must reach a good ecological potential. The Austrian population living on the riverbanks is invited to participate in this effort.

In addition to the information brochure "Aktiv für unser Wasser" the Ministry of Environment (BMLFUW) therefore has disposed the new homepage (in German) "www.wasseraktiv.at" which is online since end of March.
