Hydrological potential of the Ruzina reservoir is made up by transfer of water from Krivansky potok at the site of Mytna dam. It is the purpose of the water works to make up flow rates of both Budinsky potok and Krivansky potok into a profile below Lovinobana, approx. 14.0 km above Lucenec. Water accumulated in the reservoir provides 0.022 m3.s_1 for industrial water off-take, irrigation water sufficient for 27.0 km2, and also brings clean water from the reservoir to the Krivansky potok.
The system of water works was built in 1970 – 1973. It comprises the Ruzina water work built on Budinsky potok and Mytna water work built on Krivansky potok with water transfer.
Ruzina water work
This water work consists of an accumulation reservoir formed by an embankment dam. The area of the basin to the dam profile is small, and without transferring part of the Krivansky potok flow it could not serve the above purpose. The total volume of the reservoir with the flooded area of 1.7 km2 is Vc = 14.76 mil. m3, thereof the reserve volume is Vz = 13.0 mil. m3.
Hydrological conditions on both streams with reference to the dam profile: (see table)
The earth embankment dam has a homogenous profile built of clay – to sand loams of low penetration property. The upstream face slope gradient varies from 1:3.5 to 1:6, and 1:12, and at the toe it passes into a 56.0 m long upstream blanket. The upper section of the downstream face gradient is 1:2.5 and from the berm down it varies from 1:3 to 1:6 at the toe.
The service facility consists of an associated tower structure, with an intake section and shaft spillway, outlet channel and stilling basin.
The inlet section of the associated facility has a shaft spillway and machine room for bottom gates. The shaft spillway itself, with a 6.5 m spillway crest radius, is not baffled.
The lower part of the tower is a machine room. It houses 2 x Ø 800 mm bottom gate pipes and a Ø 250 mm intake pipe for minimal flow discharge. Each of the pipes is equipped by double closures.
Mytna water work
The water work is built on Krivansky potok about 2.0 km above the Mytna community. The dam forms a reservoir which enables water passage by gravity into the Ruzina reservoir with the aim to improve hydrology conditions of the Budinsky potok. The reservoir is formed by a 8.0 m high homogenous earth embankment. It has a simple profile, with the upstream gradient of 1:3 and downstream gradient 1:2. The sealing function of a compressible and penetrable underlying stratum is achieved by a 50 cm upstream blanket. The body and underlying stratum of the dam are drained by a shallow draining toe at the downstream toe. The dam has an associated service block, consisting of inlet part, spillway block, outlet channel and stilling basin. In the associated block there is also an intake facility to the feeder, which takes the Krivan water to the Ruzin reservoir. Along 2.96 km the 4.49 km feeder is designed as a Ø 1,020 mm steel pressure pipe, from there on proceeding as an open reinforced-concrete channel.
The 0.144 mil. m3 volume of the Mytna reservoir is, with respect to its function to provide passage of water by gravity, minimal. Thus the dam serves primarily as an impoundment unit.
