At the same time, personnel expenditure should be kept as low as possible, so that the facilities can be operated in a profitable way. In view of these aspects, control technology becomes an important task in the frame of the design and realisation of water supply.
Increasing performance and saving costs
Today, water suppliers are facing the problem of having to cut their costs while maintaining or improving the level of performance and services. The more fixed costs are rising and water consumption is decreasing, the more this gap is widening. A specifically designed control technology, realised according to user needs, can help to minimise investment and operation costs.
The ”RIDAT-Prozessleitsystem” of the Austrian company Rittmeyer, for example, is automatically monitoring and controlling the drinking water supply of the Carinthian capital Villach 24 hours a day. Any deviation from normal operation is recorded, and extraordinary conditions put the stand-by service on alert. The voice processor transmits a message on the location and cause of the alarm to the employee in charge. The Rittmeyer safety modem guarantees transmission of clear text messages also in case of a total outage of the control system. The person in charge can also get into contact with the control terminal by means of the modem of a stand-by computer (laptop). The functions of this computer are identical to those of the terminal switchboard, i.e. visualisation and operation are the same and safe and stress-free.
Rittmeyer is manufacturing special branch-specific devices for measuring groundwater and reservoir levels and network pressure. Flow measurement is carried out by means of magnetically induced water meters or in large nominal sizes distances with ultrasound. These measurement devices have been developed by the company itself or are fully integrated as third products in the range of the Rittmeyer products. In quality evaluations, the company is combining the professional knowledge of well-known special enterprises with the branch-specific knowledge of the water sector. The Rittmeyer valves with low voltage drive are an efficient and comprehensive economical solution especially with regard to energy consumption, emergency power supply and service life. The automatic pumps of the specialised company guarantee monitoring, protection, local control and alarms for each of the pumps.
Rittmeyer supplies and assembles not only key-ready measuring and control technology, but guarantees also a wide range of services: from competent planning and branch- and professional consulting up to operating and parametrising training courses.
