The initial impulse for establishment thereof was the disastrous flood in the Danube river in 1965, which showed that effective management of water management processes must be realised in natural hydrologic basins – regardless the administrative regions of the country. The fact that this step was correct has been confirmed by the fact that in spite of material social changes and the related economic transformation processes, the Slovak Water Management Enterprise has become one of the most stabile state enterprises in Slovakia, administering the property in the value of several tens billions.
Such organizational arrangement is currently preferred also by the European Union, not only as a condition for acceding countries, but also for advanced members of the European Union.
In the ceremony, the Minister of Land Management awarded orders to the meritorious workers in land management.
