Wedeco Awarded Large UV Order in the USA
Wedeco AG: UV-waste water disinfection with TAK 55 System

Pelham wastewater treatment plant to be equipped with state-of-the-art UV waste water disinfection technology

Wedeco Ideal Horizons, Wedeco's North American subsidiary, headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, has been awarded a large order for the supply and installation of a TAK55 plant for wastewater disinfection from the general contractor Pizzagalli Construction.

The Western Carolina Regional Sewer Authority is the operator of the wastewater treatment plant. According to statements by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Wedeco AG, Mr Werner Klink, the total order volume amounts to almost EUR 1.2 million.

The supply and installation of this large plant is scheduled for the winter of 2004, operation is to commence at the beginning of 2005. The Pelham wastewater treatment plant is located between the cities of Greenville and Spartanburg in the state of South Carolina and treats the wastewater of both cities. Experts know Spartanburg as the US American headquarters of the German automotive group BMW.

The large order comprises the supply of a WEDECO TAK55 plant including electronic and hydraulic control. The UV system is designed to disinfect 45 MGD (170,000 m³/day) wastewater per day with a UV dose of approximately 40 mJ/cm2. The target of the UV treatment is the guaranteed adherence to a limit of 200 fecal coliform units per 100 ml of wastewater. There is scope for the extension of the plant to treat up to 60 MGD (227,000 m³/day) wastewater with a dose of 100 mJ/cm2. Following a corresponding extension, this plant would also meet the strict US American criteria regarding the reuse of the purified and disinfected water, e.g. for irrigation purposes in agriculture.

According to Mr Klink, Wedeco was awarded the order by the internationally renowned planning office Black & Veatch following an in-depth investigation of technical conditions in respect of operating costs, reliability and economic efficiency of the UV system.
