 Green light for Danube-Oder-Elbe Canal
The decided enlargement of the EU and the efforts of the Slovak Republic to develop the river Vah into an international waterway have led to a change in attitude.

The promoters of the Canal project, Sdruzeni Dunaj-Odra-Labe, comprises corporations and enterprises from the Czech Republic, Poland, Germany and Austria (e.g. Vienna Port). Vienna Port manager Ronald Schrems, sees the canal as a unique chance for Vienna to become a turntable in the European water network, which would lead to an enormous upgrading of the entire region as business location.
