 Vitava River
Removal of Disinfection by Precursors and by Coagulation
Removal of organic precursors of disinfection by-products (DBPs-trihalomethanes and chloroacetic acids) from the Vltava River water was investigated.

Ferric coagulant was used in the experiments. It was found that coagulation and separation of the suspension by sedimentation and filtration is an effective means to reduce DBPs in drinking water.

On the other hand, mild preoxidation by potassium permanganate prior to the coagulation did not improve removal of the precursors of chloroacetic acids.

Concentration of precursors of chloroform was higher after preoxidation/coagulation than after simple coagulation.
