The EU Programme NAIADES, which was first launched in 2006 and continues until 2013, provides the backbone of inland navigation support in Europe. The PLATINA project initiated in early June 2008 shall now help to improve the background conditions.
Moreover, it shall eliminate administrative obstacles and – via input from the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR) – assure environmental protection a firm standing in potential technical projects in the future.
The target groups of the “Platform for the Implementation of NAIADES” (PLATINA) are shipping companies, national governments and their subordinate divisions and agencies. Awareness-raising measures shall stimulate their interest in the eco-friendy cargo ship. Until mid-2012, the time of project completion, some 8.3 million € will be earmarked for this pupose.
