Wastewater Treatment Plant Vienna: Focus on Ozone Testing

Preparing for future developments, Viennese experts have launched the “KomOzon” project to deal more closely with the sanitary and eco-toxic aspects of wastewater management

Europe’s most advanced biological wastewater treatment plants, such as Vienna’s Main Wastewater Treatment Plant (MWTP), render excellent carbon and nutrient removal results. But new challenges are now tempting plant operators to further step up their capacities. Especially micro-pollutants, sanitation, foam formation and discoloration of cleaned effluents are aspects assuming growing importance. Viennese experts are aware of this problem. Environment City Councillor Ulli Sima says: “Our goal is to provide Vienna with excellent water! This implies that also substances whose removal so far has not been mandatory need to be eliminated.”
