Berlin Centre of Competence for Water

The Berlin Centre of Competence for Water (Kompetenzzentrum Wasser Berlin, KWB) is a public-private partnership company, founded in December 2001 as a non profit limited company.

The KWB stands as a network node to strengthen the position of Berlin as an international centre in the field of water economy and technology. Partners and actors are scientific facilities, public institutions, companies as well as multipliers from public and private sectors.

The associates of the KWB gGmbH are the TSB Technologiestiftung Innovationszentrum Berlin, the Berliner Wasserbetriebe, the Berlinwasser Holding Plc and Veolia Water Germany (formerly Vivendi Water).

Since January 2003, together with the Technical University of Berlin and the Berlin research network Wasserforschung e.V., the partners have been financing a network office with a base budget of 440.000 € per year.

The aims of the KWB are:

  • Initiation and realisation of research programs
  • Fund raising for the promotion of science and research
  • Communication platform in the water sector
  • Organisation of symposia, workshops and conferences
  • Education and training
