EUREAU’s Fingerprint on EU Blueprint Water

Climate change and its impacts on water management are also a concern of the European Federation of National Associations of Water and Wastewater Services (EUREAU) based in Brussels.

The lobbying organisation has therefore established a Task Force on Climate Change some time ago and most recently expressed its commitment by hosting the symposium “Climate Change & Water” for the first time in October. This symposium was founded on the initiative of Richard Seeber, President of the European Parliament’s Intergroup on Water.

High-ranking officials from the European Commission’s DG Environment, the EBRD, water utilities and the agricultural industry attended the event, thereby assuring that the information was delivered to the right people.

A key message of the symposium was that climate change primarily affects water resources and water management and that EUREAU must be involved in all relevant decisions. Another important message was that climate change adjustment strategies always need to be developed in light of regional conditions.
