Traffic jams on motorways, expensive railway infrastructure projects, difficulties in the air cargo industry – why not turn to inland navigation instead? This transport system has enough spare capacities that could be put to good use – not only in Austria and not only on the whole Danube down to the Black Sea. Rivers used to be popular transport routes throughout centuries, but they went somewhat out of fashion as transports turned to road and rail. Navigation is now endeavouring again to draw attention to its many benefits.
